3D Laser Scanning

High Definition Surveying (HDS) for accurate reality capture and Scan to BIM conversion

3D Laser Scanning (also known as High Definition Surveying — HDS) is a method of high-accuracy reality capture. Laser beams map the complete geometry of existing buildings and structures, creating a point cloud of precise 3D coordinates that is then converted into accurate BIM models in Autodesk Revit.

Key Benefits

  • Reduces site field work by up to 60% with zero interference to on-site activities
  • Long-range scanning capability minimises the number of scan setups required
  • Captures an accurate 3D position and coordinate for every point
  • Output: Point Cloud data (Recap) → BIM Model (Revit) — Architectural, Structural, MEP
  • Used for renovation, retrofit, extension projects, and as-built verification
  • Supports creation of shop drawings, quantity extraction, and dimension verification

Laser Scanning Workflow

Project Delivery Process

Our structured 6-step approach ensures successful BIM implementation and project delivery

1

Preparatory & Planning

Kick-off meeting to define project objectives, deliverables, and BIM requirements. Sets the direction and baseline for the entire engagement.

2

BIM Implementation

Alftek's experts identify and map all benefits achievable through BIM implementation across all project phases. BIM Execution Plan (BEP) is produced and agreed with the client team.

3

BIM Project Execution

Everything planned is put into action. The team executes modelling, coordination, shop drawing production, and all agreed deliverables.

4

Tracking & Monitoring

Structured monitoring and evaluation ensures projects remain on programme and within budget. Progress dashboards and regular reporting keep all stakeholders aligned.

5

QA/QC Process

Quality Assurance and Quality Control is run upon completion of every discipline and system. Designed to eliminate errors, resolve clashes, and ensure model accuracy.

6

Completion & Handover

Final delivery to the client including all BIM models, drawings, COBie data, and documentation. Handover takes place once the contract administrator has confirmed all contracted works are complete.
